Chapter 143 New Alpha of the Howler Pack (Poppy POV)
After a while of an awkward silence, Terry rose from his chair. He said, “Alpha Damon, your Luna is extremely powerful. Some of us suspect that she is more powerful than you.”
That statement took me by surprise. I stared at him wondering what he just said. I was in no way more powerful than Damon. When I gazed at him, he had his chin up and his chest was swelling with pride rather than jealousy. My cheeks heated a little when his h*and squeezed my t*highs again as if to tell me that he was so proud of me and that he was loving where this was heading.
Terry nervously glanced at me and continued, “Merger of two packs is amazing but it is different when you conquer a pack and when you merge them with mutual consent. We would like to draw conditions for the merger, if that is okay with Luna Poppy.”
Without waiting for Damon’s consent on this, I said, “I am okay with it. Please go ahead and tell me your conditions.”
Damon suppressed a smile as he looked at Terry whose cheeks pinkened at my readiness to accept the conditions. I was sure that he was anticipating resistance from me.
Once the meeting was over, I went to talk to my pack members who were all housed in the pack house of the Umbra pack. They were all pretty enthusiastic about it. After seeing how affluent the Umbra pack was and how progressive they were, my pack members eagerly awaited the conditions. At the same time, I heard that one of my pack members smelled his mate in the Umbra pack. It was extremely surprising. All I could do was tell them to go to the Moon Goddess and pray to her.
The lunch was quick because Damon was in a hurry to go to the Howler pack to see how things were over there. So along with a large group of warriors all of us headed to the Howlers pack. I hadn’t talked with Eliza at all and so this time when Killian came, I asked if he could bring Eliza as well.
Throughout the drive, Damon was sullen because I talked my heart out with my friend. Eliza too wanted to talk about a lot of things. “I want to visit the academy just once!” she said.
“Me too!” I supported her idea. “How about we go there next week? I want to meet Anna.”
“That would be wonderful,” Eliza giggled. “Anna would love to see us. I heard that Gandal has also found his mate!”
“What?” I was surprised.
“Yes! Gandal has found his mate and she is a human.”
“Oh. My. Goddess.” I rasped. I couldn’t imagine the Norse Alpha to find a mate in a human. “That is pretty odd.”
“I swear,” Eliza rolled her eyes. “I don’t think humans even know anything about mates.”
I tutted. “Poor Gandal. Maybe we can go and talk to his mate about it?”
“No need!” Damon growled. He glared at Killian as if asking him to control his mate to not give me ideas about leaving him. “You aren’t going anywhere. You have a lot of work to be done at the Umbra pack,” he growled with possessiveness. Though I wanted to protest, the wolf in me loved my mate’s dominance.
“Can we talk about it later?” I asked with puppy eyes.
Damon took a ragged breath when he saw me with my puppy eyes and snarled, “Okay… but I won’t allow you.”
I giggled and sat in his lap, resting my head against his chest. He curled his arms around me and soothed down. I knew that whenever I talked to him about going anywhere, he didn’t like it. He was just too possessive about me and I loved it.
We reached the Howler pack in one hour. As soon as we reached there, I was shocked to see how the pack members treated us. As Damon walked down the road to reach the pack house, all the pack members bowed to him and inclined their necks in submission. Damon walked amongst them with a broad chest and his head high, holding my h*and.
It was then I realized that since Damon defeated Nash Dawson who was their Alpha after his father’s death, the wolves of the Howler pack recognized him as their new Alpha. Goddess. How was Damon going to control three packs? Apart from his own pack, he now had to take charge of the Howler as well as my pack. A shudder ran down my body when I felt that I was giving him so much responsibility. He sensed my anxiety and a tender thought floated in my mind. “Don’t worry, I can manage it.” He squeezed my h*and and I had this sudden urge to stop him and hug him tightly.
All the council members of the Howler pack gathered at the pack house along with the previous Beta and the Gamma. They all were nervous and tension was thick in the air. I scanned the main hall that was full of the pack members who had come to see the new Alpha. Amongst them was the Shaman too. He bowed to us and said, “Alpha Damon, we would like to take you to the Moon Goddess temple where you have to formally take over as the Alpha of the Howler pack. After that you can hold your meetings.”
Everything was happening so quickly that I was dazed.
The Shaman shifted his gaze to me. He bowed to me again and said, “You have to accompany Alpha Damon in order to formally take over as the Luna of the Howler pack.”
As everyone waited for Damon to say something, I was bereft. I licked my dry l*ips wondering what was going on in Damon’s mind. Damon studied the room full of wolves looking up at him and said, “Since Howler pack is taken over by the Umbra pack, the new name for the Howler will be Umbra.”
I was expecting a lot of resistance, but I saw that there was none. Well, that was the law of the werewolves.
Damon continued, “So I will go to the temple but all the Howlers will now be known as Umbra pack members.”
The Shaman bowed. “Yes Alpha. The ceremony will be held accordingly.”
As we walked to the temple, my eyes searched for Cynthia.
